Gul Skills Development Project

The Cornish word for ‘create,’ Gul is a 6 month, 3 days a week programme which enables those aged 18+ who are impacted by long term and inter-generational unemployment to progress towards further education, employment and training.

The programme’s holistic approach includes a wide range of activities including access to Maths, English and Digital Skills qualifications, Level 3 Paediatric First Aid, healthy relationships workshops, financial management, physical wellbeing and outdoor education activities, cooking workshops, support with housing, parenting, child development, healthy eating and counselling.

On completion of Gul, participants are supported into training, further education and employment with a C.V. full of tangible achievements and awards in locally relevant activities that they are interested in and motivated towards. In the first 2.5 years of Gul 77% of people on the project have moved into further education, employment or training, breaking the cycle of inter-generational long-term unemployment.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d like to take part in the Gul Skills Development project.

Gul Café Training Project

The Gul Café Training Project, is a free, innovative course designed to build confidence and practical skills for individuals looking to work or train within hospitality.  The project trains 30 people a year in our  training kitchen and café, run by our highly skilled and experienced Community Café & Training Hub Manager and her team. Participants study relevant hospitality qualifications in food safety and hygiene, customer service, barista training, food preparation, and much more, as well as gain practical experience volunteering in the café. Like the Gul Skills Development Project, this is delivered through a holistic approach which includes a wide range of activities including financial management, housing, parenting, physical wellbeing support, healthy eating, and counselling. On completion participants are fully equipped to enter the hospitality sector and are then supported into training, further education and employment with a C.V. full of relevant achievements and awards.
