Trelya Backs the Babies Bill

We are proud to support the Infants, Parents and Carers Bill —the Babies Bill— a landmark piece of legislation currently making its way through Parliament. The Bill, introduced by Sir Desmond Swayne MP with the support of the 1001 Critical Days Foundation, would place a legal duty on the Secretary of State to assess the needs of infants, parents, carers and prospective parents during the 1,001 critical days —the period from pregnancy to a child’s second birthday— to commission information and services, and to report annually to Parliament on outcomes.

We are calling on MPs of all parties to support the Bill at its Second Reading on 4 September, and we encourage our supporters and partners to write to their local MP to ask them to do the same.

About Trelya

Trelya (the Cornish word for ‘change’), is an award-winning charity working to improve mental health, wellbeing, and enable positive change in West Cornwall’s most under resourced communities.

We know from experience that the children, young people and families living in our communities are unique and skilled individuals with incredible potential. Trelya creates opportunities to fulfil that potential through provision of a nursery, an award-winning youth work and mentoring programme and ‘Gul,’ our highly successful employment and training programme. Children and young people from Trelya have gone on to do incredible things – from exhibiting at the Saatchi Gallery in London to playing football for Cornwall and studying at University to become a qualified medical professional.

We work holistically with all family members which ensures change is deep rooted, achievable, and sustainable.
