The Gul Skills Community Hub, part funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, was a three-part project which included remodelling part of, and upgrading, our Lescudjack Centre to create a new floor with learning rooms, recording studio and IT equipment as part of the new Gul (which is the Cornish word for ‘create’) Community Skills Hub.
This project was part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council is responsible for managing projects funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme.
The Gul Skills Community Hub project provided infrastructure works to future proof our Lescudjack Centre including remodelling part of, and upgrading the building, from April 2023 to 31st March 2025. This included the installation of new windows, flooring, heating, solar energy, the creation of a new floor with learning rooms, recording studio and IT equipment.
This project also delivered the Gul Skills Project which works to equip local people with basic skills to help them move towards living wage employment or further education and training. This includes intensive support with Maths, English, and digital skills, vocational qualifications, life skills and health and wellbeing support.
The third strand of the project supported was the Gul Skills Café which delivers skills and training through the centre’s new community café and kitchen to prepare people for work in the hospitality and catering industry, which is experiencing severe skills shortages.
